About Me!

Everyone has a story and below is an abstract of mine :)

I was born to Sri Lankan parents and lived the first 20 years of my life in Colombo, Sri Lanka. I was eductated at S. Thomas' College, Mt Lavinia, a private boys school where I played squash for the college team and was a school prefect. During this time I got involved in working on some of my fathers classic cars so when time came to choose which path I was to take for a career, choosing mechanical engineering wasn't too tough a decision.

The first half of my university career was spent at Swinburne University in Sarawak, Malaysia. It was a great time of my life where I had the time to explore some of the wonderful rain forests in Borneo while continuing to play squash and taking part in various cultural events.

After 2 years I transfered to Swinburne's Melbourne campus where I finished my degree with with honours. Moving countries in the middle of a degree was a bit of a challenge as I had to get used to living life in a different way in Melbourne compared to Sarawak but was a welcome change. During my final year at university I had to juggle between working for GlaxoSmithKline (GSK)in Port Fairy, which was 300km away from Melbourne, doing my final year project for CSIRO and also attending my practical classes at university. Due to all the travelling I was doing, I got myself excused from attending the lectures which helped me get used to using the internet to do a lot of my studies.

After graduating university I was employed as a mechanical design engineer in Melbourne where I was involved in designing automated machinery for some local and multinational equipment manufacturers. Since June 2015, I relocated myself to the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia where I have continued to pursue my studies in Industrial Automation while working at KW Automation where I design and develop automated material handling equipment lines.

During my free time I love to hit the outdoors where I go on hikes and camp while I also spend a fair bit of time driving my classic mini, Chexy, on tours organised by the local mini owners club.
